Tuesday- Young Professionals Engagement Event

NJEPA is proud to once again offer the Young Professionals Event at our upcoming conference.  This session is designed for those who are new to Emergency Management or looking to get started in the field.  Attendees will have the opportunity to ask industry leaders questions about the field, get career advice, network and learn how Emergency Management touches every industry in the public and private sector.  Program elements will include a panel discussion with veteran Emergency Management professionals, a presentation from a higher education institution, networking opportunities, and a chance to win free attendance at the 2023 NJEPA Conference.

Join us for the Annual Awards and Networking Reception!  The conference is just getting started and this is an opportunity to meet with our colleagues (new and old) to look forward to the weeks' remaining events...as we honor emergency managers and future emergency managers during our awards program. This event will feature light hors d'oeuvres and cash bar. There is a nominal $15 fee for this event so please remember to sign up when you register. Seating is limited.

Friday- Special Event- 2019 Jersey City Shooting

Key members of the On-Scene Incident Command of the Jersey City Police Department, and Jersey City Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security will discuss the response, mitigation, and aftermath of the Active-Shooter event that occurred on December 10th, 2019 in Jersey City. This incident ultimately claimed the life of Det. Joseph Seals and disrupted the community of Jersey City for several days.

Speakers will provide a brief overview and analysis of the events and throughout their discussion will identify areas of strength in their response capabilities, agency interoperability, and communications; as well discuss the lessons learned from this event that have helped plan for the future.

This is a unique opportunity for all attendees to see firsthand the intricacies of a multi-agency response to a large-scale incident where various major threats rapidly presented themselves with limited information. The challenges faced by Senior Leadership not only involved the hundreds of rounds fired in between two schools and multiple businesses, but also involved confirmed IED’s, multiple crime scenes, and hundreds of Law Enforcement Officers from dozens of jurisdictions.

This presentation includes insight into the considerations and plans made to secure the businesses, schools, students, residents, and crime-scenes; while also making all attempts to facilitate responder safety during this rapidly evolving, geographically challenging, multijurisdictional event.
