The NJEPA honors the State’s exemplary Emergency Managers through a series of scholarships named in their honor. These awards are named for Captain Jonathan C. Young, former President of the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Association and career firefighter and fire officer and Michael Augustyniak a former career emergency manager and planner for the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. They are intended for a graduating high school senior or college student presently enrolled in an accredited college or university interested in pursuing a career in the emergency management field of study. This includes emergency management, homeland security, fire suppression, law enforcement, hazardous material, arson investigation, etc.

ELIGIBILITY & RULES
The candidate must be a high school senior or presently enrolled in a college or university as a full-time or part time student. The candidate must be a legal U.S. resident and a resident of the State of New Jersey.
All applications must be received by electronic submission and should include transcripts, SATs and any other supporting information. See below for the contact information. Applications must be received no later than TBD. Any application received after this date will not be considered for a scholarship. Full details on the application link.
SELECTION PROCESS
All applications will be reviewed for eligibility and to ensure that all supporting documentation has been received. A blind selection process will be employed with original documentation in the custody of the Executive Director or their designee. Applications will then be reviewed by selection committee. Each committee member will rank each application from 1-5, 1 being the highest. Should there be no qualified applicants in any given year the scholarship may not be awarded. Scholarship Awardees will be notified by e-mail and/or telephone prior to the 2024 conference.
Past NJEPA Scholarship recipients are NOT eligible to receive another scholarship.
